The 2009 Asthma Burden Report provides information about the prevalence of asthma among children and adults, asthma hospitalizations (including the Medicaid population), mortality and the cost of asthma. Data about the mortality and morbidity of asthma in Pennsylvania were compared to the Healthy People 2010 objectives where applicable. This report also provides information state-wide and at a health district and county levels (where appropriate) to assist public health programs and policy makers in designing solutions for the reduction of the burden of asthma in Pennsylvania.
The 2008 Pennsylvania Asthma Focus Report; Inpatient Hospitalizations with a Primary Discharge Diagnosis of Asthma describes the burden of asthma on the people of Pennsylvania for 2003-2006 and provides information state-wide and at health district and county levels (where appropriate) to assist public health programs and policy makers to design solutions to reduce asthma hospitalization rates, as well as the burden of asthma in Pennsylvania. Asthma data in this report was provided by the Pennsylvania Health Care Cost Containment Council (PHC4) and analyzed by the PA DOH Asthma Surveillance Team. The Pennsylvania Asthma Focus Report: Prevalence & Beyond: Measures of Asthma Management and Control was published in July 2007. This document provides a look at indicators of asthma management and control among adults in Pennsylvania who report that they have asthma. This report is based on data from the 2004 and 2005 Adult Asthma History Module of the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System. Such indicators as how asthma affects sleep, work, daily activities and how often and where one seeks medical care provide insight into the control and management of this chronic disease. This report is no longer available in hard copy. Please download and print on your own. The Burden of Asthma in Pennsylvania 2006 was produced as an initial effort to systematize available data on the burden of asthma. Based on recommendations in the Pennsylvania Asthma Action Plan to improve future editions of the Asthma Burden Report, the Pennsylvania Asthma Control Program conducted a survey on the 2006 Pennsylvania Asthma Burden Report. This evaluated, identified, determined and prioritized factors affecting: usefulness and value of the report; recommendations to improve future reports; and findings on additional asthma data sources to enhance the existing surveillance system. The Assessment of the 2006 Pennsylvania Asthma Burden Report was completed by Partnership members.
